The five companies were: coachbuilder, Fuji Jidosha scooter manufacturer, Fuji Kogyo engine manufacturer, Omiya Fuji Kogyo Tokyo Fuji Dangyo trading company and chassis builder, Utsunomiya Sharyo. Between 19, five of these twelve corporations and a newly formed corporation merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries.
Fuji Sangyo was broken up into 12 smaller corporations as required by the Japanese government's 1950 Corporate Credit Rearrangement Act. The company created the Fuji Rabbit in 1946, from spare aircraft parts. After the war, Nakajima Aircraft was reorganized and became known as Fuji Sangyo Co, Ltd. The company later became known as Nakajima Aircraft Company, Ltd, in 1932, and rapidly became a major aircraft manufacturer for Japan during World War II. Originally, in 1915, Fuji Heavy Industries started out as the Aircraft Research Laboratory. Subaru was named in Japanese for the Pleiades star cluster M45, aka the ""Seven Sisters "" one of whom is traditionally seen as being invisible – hence only six stars in the Subaru logo.
